I'm ...I just read this and had a eureka moment. I'm currently in midlife and found was ADHD a few years ago, so trying to sort out the issues. This is a major hurdle for me. Once started, the hyper-focus can kick in. Can plan, organize and if I'm really engaged can get stuff done. The issue is starting. This is where I can become very distracted. Social Media, the dirty dishes, getting the lint out of the dryer.... then when I've not started for awhile, the guilt and shame starts up, making the starting even more difficult. It's a vicious cycle. It's why scheduling doesn't work for me... at least now I know why. My phone beeps at me and I ignore it because I don't want to get started. Even on stuff I really enjoy. You're right, I've looked for more information on this and I've only found research having been done for people with traumatic brain injuries. (which actually might explain a lot as I played football, rugby and cycled competitively as a kid... with my head taking trauma at times.) Thanks for writing this, I can't remember how I stumbled upon it, but it's going to be a game changer I feel.GolfDudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14523480109604852790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7775156449970267139.post-38021825371260626772020-05-12T15:16:22.112-07:002020-05-12T15:16:22.112-07:00Hi! I included a link to this post so other people can read your writing as well. I'd be honored if you found time to give mine a read, and I'd love to hear what you think of it. No pressure, of course! https://medium.com/invisible-illness/the-adhd-entrepreneur-hacking-initiation-impairment-efa4e9e98064?source=friends_link&sk=fa9308f44c48ff96316d39f7fc4ca29aAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02330454072734035023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7775156449970267139.post-89110846462656291062018-09-20T14:44:59.749-07:002018-09-20T14:44:59.749-07:00This was great to see my constant struggle put int...This was great to see my constant struggle put into words! I didn’t know what to call it or how to feel about myself. This puts it in perspective for me. Its not a moral failing, its something I can seek treatment for. Thanks for telling your personal experience because all the definitions I read didn’t really explain the phenomenon to me. Seeing what it looks like in someone’s day to day life helped.
Thank you, so much!
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01080533596670052126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7775156449970267139.post-17835099660460812712017-09-29T10:01:37.233-07:002017-09-29T10:01:37.233-07:00Wow. I have been stuck in yet another rut on and off (okay, er.. mostly on) for the past couple months and it's been slowly depleting my sense of self worth and personal pride. When "it" starts, it's usually just a few small things being put off... Then the ability to put off things spirals into a major, constant habit. Every day I've allowed myself to accept and expect the "fact" that I will not get "ALL the things" done I plan to do as some useless means to feel less guilty and frustrated with myself when I don't get them done. I can say that this mentality has been working for me probably about as well as trying to sit Indian style in a 3-legged chair. Also, loved that post by hyperboleandahalf! Thank you for the peace you have given me in knowing that I'm not alone <3Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17711695205333838398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7775156449970267139.post-89522295797930783342017-04-09T10:59:06.621-07:002017-04-09T10:59:06.621-07:00Hi ToeKnee. Between initiation problems and working memory problem, I wouldn't be surprised if you match the description of the ADHD inattention symptoms.

This questionnaire made by WHO gives an idea: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.hcp.med.harvard.edu/ncs/ftpdir/adhd/18Q_ASRS_English.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwj07c-W-JfTAhWFKWMKHRuhBGAQFgg8MAI&usg=AFQjCNFBty2ZRITSMuoNhl_l8CfzoqFYjA&sig2=j8oxzrWhTSUx_x8IVje7Iw

That's based on the DSM4, but the only huge difference for the new version is that there has to be some symptoms before you were 12 years old (previously seven).Cyllyahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01604908526676506386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7775156449970267139.post-83511253813626920432017-02-10T05:31:44.566-07:002017-02-10T05:31:44.566-07:00Wow, I just had an out of body experience reading ...Wow, I just had an out of body experience reading this. It describes my life perfectly.

I never knew what the issue was, I have been treated for depression, been told I'm lazy or to just try harder.

The only problem with the depression diagnosis is that I've never actually felt depressed.

A friend suggested ADHD but that doesn't seem to fit as I was never hyperactive, although my working memory is shocking too.

Thanks for writing this article, it explains a lot.

Now to find out what it is and how to treat it.ToeKneehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00026572438885189412noreply@blogger.com
